Wine Tasmania is again inviting applications from national wine buying professionals for a two-day visit ‘like no other’ to the island in November.

Places in the program are limited to ten participants and are becoming increasingly competitive.

Wine Tasmania’s wine trade visitation program has been educating sommeliers and wine trade representatives since 2010, many of whom have gone on to extend their influence internationally, while its currently alumni represent some of the best venues across the country.

“We love bringing wine trade visitors to the island, giving them a glimpse behind the scenes and into the lifestyle we’re privileged to enjoy,” said Wine Tasmania’s CEO Sheralee Davies.

“Drink what we drink, eat what we eat, marvel at the scenery and wildlife, complain about the traffic (just kidding), and experience quintessential Tasmanian hospitality. Not only does this island have some of the best wines on the planet, it also offers some of the best produce from every corner and microclimate (think truffles, seafood, honey, saffron, cherries, cheese and more).”

“While Tasmanian wine has a big and growing reputation for its outstanding sparkling, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Riesling and more, its talented growers and makers are small in scale and Tassie wine can be hard to find. Visiting the island, with local wine producers as your guides, is the best way to explore the depth, diversity, personalities, styles, sub-regionality of its wines and the people behind these exceptional wines.”

November’s national wine trade visit to Tasmania is open to individuals who are directly responsible for wholesale wine purchasing within their mainland-based restaurant, wine bar or independent wine retail business. The 2024 visit will be held on 17-19 November 2024 and is presented with support from the Tasmanian Government. These visitation programs attract upwards of 160 applications for the ten places, which Wine Tasmania said is “humbling and appreciated”, but means they cannot accommodate everyone.

Eligible national wine trade buyers are encouraged to visit winetasmania.com.au/trade-visit for further details and to apply before 5pm on Friday 27th September.
