Margaret River wines to feature in UK Sommelier of the Year competition

The countdown is on for the UK Sommelier of the Year 2025, which will this year feature wines from Margaret River as part of a partnership with the region.

In collaboration with the IWSC (International Wine & Spirit Competition) and the UK Sommelier Academy, Margaret River will showcase its wines at the quarter final, semi-final and grand final events featuring 40 candidates on 7–8 July 2025, culminating in the result announcement event, which will crown this year’s UK Sommelier of the Year.

Twelve Margaret River wineries will be featured at the event held alongside the competition, where the country’s top sommeliers compete for the title. More than 200 hospitality professionals are expected to attend. Participating wineries include Cape Mentelle, Cherubino Wines, Cloudburst, Cullen Wines, Fraser Gallop Estate, House of Cards, McHenry Hohnen Vintners, Moss Wood, Passel Estate, Vasse Felix, Voyager Estate and Xanadu.

As an added highlight, the UK Sommelier of the Year 2025 winner will receive a place on Pair’d Margaret River’s Sommelier programme in November, including an exclusive immersion experience encompassing a deep dive into the region and festival events.

Amanda Whiteland, CEO of the Margaret River Wine Association, said the region was proud to be a supporting partner of this year’s competition.

IWSC CEO Christelle Guibert said the team was “thrilled” with the partnership.

“Showcasing the region’s exceptional wines at this event will not only inspire the sommeliers but also strengthen the ties between Margaret River and the UK hospitality trade,” said Guibert.

The IWSC 2025 UK Sommelier of the Year Final will be livestreamed on Tuesday, 8 July 2025.
