July 2020 Grapegrower & Winemaker out now!

The July issue of the Grapegrower & Winemaker is out in print and online now!

This issue focuses on Vintage 2020 with part one of our in-depth region-by-region report detailing the ‘highs and lows’ of the season across the warmer regions of Australia. While a number of areas were affected by bushfire, smoke and ongoing drought, high quality fruit was reported elsewhere.

As winter temperatures drop, viticulturist Ben Rose presents a thorough look at frost and offers ways to manage it effectively in the vineyard. As we continue to delve into the impact of climate change, we learn about a trial involving heat and drought tolerant vines imported from Cyprus.

In the winery, we turn our attention to additives with some thoughts on colour stabilising red wine.
Corrina Wright
presents an overview of natural yeasts from a winemaker’s perspective, and AWRI senior engineer Simon Nordestgaard concludes his series on selected wine industry technologies.

We feature Voyager Estate’s 2014 MJW Cabernet Sauvignon as in our regular Behind the Top Drops column, while journalist Samuel Squire profiles this month’s Young Guns, WA winemaking couple Rob and Genevieve Mann.

We also turn our attention to the likely impact of online retail giant Amazon’s entry into the Australian wine retail space.
