The Australian Society of Viticulture and Oenology (ASVO) has welcomed Chrissie Smith, a two-time finalist for Young Gun of the Year, as the new regional director for NSW on ASVO’s executive board.
The appointment was ratified at the ASVO’s annual general meeting on 29 October and the new board will hold its first meeting in December. Smith joins existing board members Andy Clarke, Dr Sam Scarratt, Dr Vanessa Stockdale, Dr Alana Seabrook, Jeremy Dineen, Dr Katie Dunne, Nick Dry, Dr Eveline Bartowsky, and Chris Waters.
Chrissie Smith is the owner of Intrepridus Wines in Canberra and assumes the role of regional director NSW/ACT from Monica Gray of See Saw Wines.
ASVO president Andy Clarke said Smith’s appointment will add “a fresh perspective” to the board.
“Having joined the industry relatively recently and being a Young Gun finalist as well as a grower and a winemaker, her involvement will help us shape the direction of the ASVO to best meet the needs of the next generation of industry movers and shakers among our members,” said Clarke.
In other changes, Dr Sam Scarratt was made vice president—Scarratt joined the ASVO board last year and became CEO of Vinehealth Australia in August.
The ASVO board of directors for the 2024/25 year comprises:
- Andy Clarke, president and regional director, VIC
- Dr Samantha Scarratt, vice president and general director
- Dr Vanessa Stockdale, secretary/public officer and general director
- Dr Alana Seabrook, treasurer and regional director, SA
- Jeremy Dineen, regional director WA, QLD & TAS
