Tamburlaine Organic Wines introduces Packamama eco-flat bottles

Tamburlaine’s Lizard Drinking Shiraz

Tamburlaine Organic Wines has launched a new brand in Packamama eco-flat wine bottles in Australia. Tamburlaine Organic Wines will now offer new Lizard Drinking branded organic wines in Packamama’s eco-flat bottles, which are made from Australian 100% recycled PET (rPET).

The Lizard Drinking brand will be available from Tamburlaine in Chardonnay and Shiraz varietals and is a humorous reference to the Australian idiom, ‘flat out like a lizard drinking’, touching on the innovative flat shape of the Packamama bottles.

This launch is a triple first as it is the first organic wine in Packamama eco-flat bottles in Australia, the first wines in Packamama bottles from New South Wales (specifically the Orange wine region), and the first wines to be bottled at the winery.

These new wines from Orange will be showcased on 1st November 2023 at the SparkLabs Cultiv8 2023 Showcase & Future Food Dinner, exploring the past, present, and future of Agri-Food Tech innovation – which is taking place in Orange. Agri-food tech accelerator SparkLabs Cultiv8 has backed and mentored 50 agritech start-ups since its launch in 2017. Earlier this year, Packamama was one of ten start-ups selected as part of the 2023 cohort of the accelerator’s CleanTech Programme.

At just 63g, with its light and space saving flat-pack design, Packamama bottles, made in Australia from 100% Australian sourced and recycled PET, help minimise the carbon footprint of wine production, and contribute to the circular economy. By choosing the Packamama bottle, Tamburlaine’s commitment to organic farming practices is extended to packaging, reinforcing their dedication to sustainability and responsible consumption.

Santiago Navarro, CEO and founder of Packamama said Tamburlaine was a good fit for the brand.

“New South Wales produces more than a quarter of Australia’s wines. This equates to close to 500 million bottle equivalents annually and so it is an important state for us to enter. Pioneer Mark Davidson is a great wine personality to launch NSW with as he champions a sustainable future for wine, respecting tradition but also pushing the boundaries and so making his ethos a natural fit with Packamama. Tamburlaine also produces great wines.”

Mark Davidson, chief winemaker and managing director, Tamburlaine Organic Wines said he recognised the eco-flat bottle potential when he first saw the UK company publicity back in 2019.

“After all,” Davidson noted, “I was part of the change 20 years ago when Australia (and NZ) alone shook up the wine world with screwcap closures replacing the old school cork seals for wine.

“This Packamama bottle, particularly in a world cleaning up its act environmentally, is a lay down misère for conscious consumers. Australian wine is now available in these bottles for a growing number of Australians; consumers who are amongst the most practical and confident wine consumers in the world.

“I remember a world where good wine only came with cork; we are on the cusp of more change to old habits thanks to innovation like the eco-flat Packamama bottle. These provide a fully recyclable and convenient alternative for the majority of quality wine destined to be consumed soon after purchase.”
