South Australian winery Growers Wine Group has formally rebranded as Freestone Estate, a move it says marks the beginning of a new chapter for the business. The group has evolved from its origins as a cooperative of growers to its current position as a family-owned winery.

“This rebrand is an opportunity to step into a brighter future while honouring our roots in the Riverland,” said Lucy Clements, CEO of Freestone Estate. “We’re proud to build on a legacy of five generations of farming and showcase the exceptional wines and people of this region to the world.”

Along with the rebrand, Freestone Estate has undergone significant changes in leadership. With a team of female leaders, including CEO Lucy Clements, chief winemaker Melanie Kargas, and CFO Sally Tilbrook, Freestone Estate’s operations span vineyards surrounding its Waikerie winery, extending across the Riverland region.

The business produces wine blends for global clients and is preparing to launch a premium range of estate wines in 2025. It has secured Sustainable Winegrowing Australia certification and plans to seek organic certification and full accreditation under BRC Global Standards by 2025.

“Freestone Estate is a celebration of everything the Riverland has to offer—its landscapes, its people, and its wines,” said Clements. “This is more than a new name; it’s the start of a bold new chapter that will see us share the region’s extraordinary story with the world.”
