Penfolds and Japanese fashion designer NIGO have collaborated to create the wine brand’s distinctive new holiday collection, released ahead of the 2024 festive season.
The ‘Holiday Designed by NIGO’ collectable series is available for a limited time globally and includes four unique giftboxes designed by NIGO. The series is inspired by the designer’s interpretation of the graphic checkered pattern found in traditional Asian textiles. A symbol of eternity and prosperity, the two-tone square pattern repeats horizontally and vertically across all Penfolds holiday giftboxes to create an unbroken design that has no end.

The new collection includes a ‘holiday interpretation’ of Penfolds Bin 389 Cabernet Shiraz. ‘Baby Grange’, as it’s known, is encapsulated in a red giftbox that includes a playful puffy ‘pillow’ texture effect to further bring the design to life.

In addition to the core Holiday Collection, NIGO also designed four wrapping cloths that complement the colourways of the giftboxes. A key textile in ancient Asian culture, with origins dating back over 1,200 years, the wrapping cloth was traditionally used to wrap and/or transport goods. Penfolds says NIGO’s holiday wrapping cloth can be used as a “more sustainable gift-wrapping option when gifting Penfolds wines”.
Creative director of Human Made and artistic director of KENZO, NIGO is a globally-renowned cultural pioneer, who is constantly raising the bar and challenging perspectives with his bold designs.
“It was very important to me to incorporate my culture into this holiday collection,” NIGO said on his third collaborative project with Penfolds. “Integrating the checkered design and Furoshiki was a clear way for me to honour that. With this Furoshiki, I hope collectors can wrap, gift and share their Penfolds wines this holiday season.”
Penfolds first announced NIGO as its Creative Partner in June 2023, with the global release of One by Penfolds. This was closely followed by the launch of Grange by NIGO (the first takeover of Penfolds flagship red wine) in February 2024.

Penfolds said that future projects between the brand and NIGO will be announced in early-2025.
