Graham Gregory Award open for nominations

Nominations for the 2023 Graham Gregory Award recognising outstanding contributions to the NSW wine industry are now open. The award, open to winemakers and viticulturists, researchers, educators, business leaders and innovators is named in honour of NSW wine industry pioneer Graham Gregory.

Presented each year by the NSW Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (NSW DPIRD), past recipients have come from all corners of the wine industry and represent some of the most influential and transformative figures of Australian wine from the past 30 years.

Dr Alison Anderson, Director of Horticulture for NSW DPIRD, encouraged people working within the NSW wine industry nominate themselves or others for the prestigious accolade.

“This award honours the legacy of Graham Gregory, an industry pioneer and former Deputy Director General in Agriculture for NSW DPIRD,” said Dr Anderson. “It is all about recognising the outstanding contributions of people who are advancing the wine industry.”

“Last year’s winner – Tom Ward – is a respected viticulturist and a past president of the NSW Wine Industry Association, Orange Region Vignerons Association and Cowra Regional Vignerons Association. The significant impact of Mr Ward’s work and contributions to the wine industry have made a mark in NSW, and further afield.”

“The Graham Gregory Award honours those who have made exceptional contributions to our industry,” said NSW Wine Industry Association president Mark Bourne. “It recognises the passion, innovation, and dedication that drive the NSW wine sector forward. I encourage everyone to consider nominating deserving individuals who have helped shape and elevate the NSW wine community.”

The Graham Gregory Award is awarded retrospectively each year.

The 2023 winner will be announced in October 2024 with the trophy formally presented at the ICC Sydney NSW Wine Awards on 1 November. Nominations for the 2023 Graham Gregory Award close on Monday 7 October 2024.
