ADELAIDE, Australia – Cooperages 1912 Australia is pleased to announce its decision to begin selling barrels crafted by Tonnellerie Tremeaux, an artisan Burgundian cooperage nestled in the heart of Beaune. Recently a sister company to Cooperages 1912 Australia purchased shared ownership of the boutique cooperage, allowing the group to now offer Tonnellerie Tremeaux barrels in Australia through a dynamic partnership.
“These classic Burgundian oak barrels pair exceptionally well with cool climate Pinot noir and Chardonnay in the Australia and New Zealand wine markets,” said Patrick Schwerdt, general manager of Cooperages 1912 Australia. “Tremeaux barrels are handcrafted to order with emphasis on every detail, from premium oak sourcing to a unique one-meter high cheminée stacking method for natural seasoning, providing a portfolio of barrels that support and promote the fruit.”
Tonnellerie Tremeaux was founded in 2010 by Ludovic Tremeaux, a Burgundian native. Tremeaux first apprenticed as a cooper at the age of 16 and went on to graduate from the College of Beaune with a Brevet de Technicien Supérieur degree in wine and spirits. He is known to be a skilled and passionate craftsman who prefers to understand the wine first, and then craft the barrel to best honor its muse.
“It’s a dream come true to find a partner with a common vision who understands and respects the essence of the brand,” said Tremeaux. “I will split my time between being onsite in the atelier in Beaune and visiting wineries around the world, including Australia, to support the sales team.”
Barrel sales will commence immediately in Australia as part of Cooperages 1912’s diverse and quality-focused barrel portfolio.
