ACCC invites winegrape growers to share their views about industry

The ACCC is inviting winegrape growers across Australia to provide feedback about competition issues in their industry through an online survey.

The survey poses a range of questions that will allow grapegrowers to share their experiences, which will help the ACCC learn about how various industry players do business and if there are any issues that could warrant ACCC attention.

The survey is anonymous and will help the ACCC get a better understanding of:

  • contracting arrangements with grape purchasers
  • the state of competition in the industry
  • dispute resolution
  • what concerns growers may have and how these may differ in particular regions
  • the views of wine grape growers about the effect of certain industry practices.

“The ACCC has previously received reports from growers and industry associations about potentially concerning business practices and we’re keen to survey growers directly to hear their views,” ACCC deputy chair Mick Keogh said.

“We’re keen to learn more about a range of issues such as contracting practices, competition, bargaining power and risk allocation, the current voluntary industry code, and the use of collective bargaining.”

“Growers’ responses to this survey are confidential, and they can choose to remain anonymous. We will examine the feedback we receive closely,” Keogh said.

“We encourage all wine grape growers to have their say and complete the survey.”

Grapegrowers have until 10 August to complete the survey, which is available at the ACCC website.
