Dan Murphy’s son selling luxury Mornington Peninsula estate

WINEMAKER Philip Murphy, son of discount wine store king Dan, is selling his stunning Mornington Peninsula estate.

Vineyards and views are key attractions at the five-bedroom, Stephen Akehurst-designed mansion at 484 Purves Rd, Main Ridge, which hit the market last week.

RT Edgar, Toorak, agent James Meldrum said the house was designed to provide views over the infinity edge pool, the vines or the bay from almost every room.

He said the home also allowed the couple to indulge their love of entertaining, with dual ovens, gas and electric cooktops and a butler’s pantry features of the kitchen overlooking the dining area.

This zone flows out to a covered entertaining zone with an open fireplace at one end and a built-in barbecue at the other.

A 2500-bottle wine cellar is found in a multipurpose room below the luxurious house built from Bruhn limestone, with a Spanish slate roof.

Mr Murphy and wife Jen bought the property as a holiday home in 2003 but eventually made it their permanent base, producing acclaimed drops from the more than 8000sq m of vines on the 2.02ha property.

Mr Meldrum said the couple planned to downsize to a smaller home in the area and hoped to sell the estate for more than $7 million.

INTERIOR designer Felicity Mann parted ways with her stylised Mordialloc home for just shy of seven figures.

The bayside stylist, who owns the boutique Mint Interior Design agency, sold the four-bedroom home at 79 White St at auction for $912,000.

Katrina O’Brien, of Buxton Mentone, handled the sale and said the auction attracted competitive bidding among three bidders.

Ms O’Brien said the presentation of the four-bedroom home made a strong impression, as the eventual buyers had only inspected it once and the underbidder only saw the home on auction day.
