2014 vintage report for Peel (Western Australia)

Vintage 2014 started early in Peel with a number of vineyards commencing in the third week of January during a very hot summer in Western Australia.
According to Peel Wine Association president Bernie Worthington, yields on whites were average and despite heat causing some sunburn, quality was excellent overall.
He said red wine production was reduced with some coastal vineyards experiencing losses in an extended heatwave in January and the region was dry with no rain recorded from November through to March.
“Overall the fruit quality was outstanding with early indications from the wineries of a fantastic vintage,” Worthington said.
“For a number of years Peel growers have been introducing some alternative and emerging varieties often with excellent results and we are looking forward to seeing these flourish in years to come.”
