1999 vintage report for Blackwood Valley (Western Australia)

Storage and processing capacity was stretched to the limit with a 40% increase in yield this year. Brian Walker, president of the Blackwood Valley Wine Industry Association, said the increased yield was due to very uniform and moderate weather conditions, no bird damage and a good balance between nutrients and water. The weather during vintage was mild. Some higher than normal humidity caused some botrytis, and spraying was necessary. Brian describes 1999 quality as ‘excellent’ for reds and ‘very good’ for whites.
