In a rebuttal to the thinking that vintage wines will always beat non-vintage wines on quality, a non-vintage sparkling from Yarra Valley winery Domaine Chandon has outclassed all other entrants to be named Australia’s top sparkling wine on the global stage.

Chandon Brut (NV) has been crowned Best Australian Sparkling Wine at the 2018 Champagne & Sparkling Wine World Championships (CSWWC) in London.

“It is a rarity in wine shows for a non-vintage sparkling to take a trophy,” says Dan Buckle, Chandon Senior Winemaker. “So, this is not only incredible news for us but also for people who want to drink Australian sparkling wine that is both affordable and high quality.”

The CSWWC is judged exclusively by fizz experts Tom Stevenson, Essi Avellan MW and Dr Tony Jordan.

After claiming a gold medal earlier in the year, Chandon Brut progressed to the trophy stage. Commenting on Chandon’s result, competition founder and judge Tom Stevenson said: “It says a lot about Chandon Australia that its entry level wine has the core-quality to beat the cream of Australia’s sparkling wine and win the National Trophy.”

It is the second time in three years that Domaine Chandon has been awarded Best Australian Sparking Wine at the CSWWC.
