One-day course “demystifies” organics

A workshop on organic viticulture will be held later this month to give wine producers an understanding of what is required to convert a vineyard to organic and/or biodynamic operation.

TM Organics will conduct the course, Organic Viticulture – is it for you? on 27 July in Loxton, South Australia.

The course will cover all aspects of organic viticulture production including soil fertility, pest and weed management, vineyard design and infrastructure, planning and budgeting for conversion, and certification compliance. Participants will also gain a good understanding of the market for organic grapes and wine.

TM Organics director, Tim Marshall said the course “demystifies the process” involved in making the switch to organic or biodynamic production.

“Finding reliable information on organic production and especially the process of converting from non-organic to organic can be difficult for producers,” Marshall said.

“This course provides much of this information and participants learn how to create their own pathway into organic or biodynamic production.”

The course is FarmReady approved, which means all eligible producers and managers can attract a subsidy on the course fee.

Owners, managers, viticulturists and wineries of all sizes are invited to attend the course, which will take place from 9am-4pm at the Loxton Hotel.
