2010 vintage report for Grampians (Victoria)

Supplied by the Grampians Winemakers Inc.
Growing season: Excellent late winter and spring rains were received. A warm spring resulted in early budburst and no frosts. A heatwave in November didn’t affect canopy health and flowering looked okay. The heatwave in January affected some vineyards depending on soil moisture management. January and February were generally warm without being too hot, except for the short heatwave.
Vintage: March was the main month of harvest, with the early harvest providing very good ripening and harvest conditions with fine days and cool nights.
Yields and quality: Yields were average or slightly above. Fruit quality was very good, with nil disease and good berry integrity. Excellent flavour profiles and tannin development have been noted in Shiraz, as well as greater uniformity of ripeness within blocks than in recent years. Quality is very promising for Shiraz and Riesling in particular.
