2010 vintage report for Geelong (Victoria)

Supplied by the Geelong Winegrowers’ Association Inc.
Growing season: Good rains fell throughout the season – although not too much – which led to a good growing season with little disease incidence. A warm start to spring caused budburst to occur a couple of weeks earlier than average. November was 3°C warmer than average which was ideal for flowering in most varieties. The only exceptions were Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc which seemed to suffer from poorer fruitset. Once again, rains arrived around veraison to finish crops off well.
Vintage: Vintage was a couple of weeks earlier generally throughout the region caused by the earlier budburst.
Yields and quality: Yields were generally average across the board or up on average, with Chardonnay down and reds average. Quality overall is very good.
