2010 vintage report for Ballarat (Victoria)

Supplied by the Ballarat and District Vignerons’ Association
Growing season: Good rainfall during September (75mm) and late November (95mm) gave a good start to the growing season. However, extreme heat in the first week of November affected flowering for some growers. The rainfall in March slowed the ripening of fruit but had no detrimental effect on fruit flavours.
Vintage: Cooler, wet conditions in March (90-95mm) slowed and extended the ripening period which made for a more even harvesting period. Vintage began in the last week of March and was finished by the end of April.
Yields and quality: In vineyards where flowering was not affected by the heat in early November, crop yields were above average, generally disease free, and showed great fruit flavours, especially for Pinot Noir.
