2002 vintage report for Adelaide Hills (South Australia)

Yields in the Adelaide Hills were down, some by up to 50%, according to Evan Hiscott, president of the Adelaide Hills Wine Region.
Evan said poor flowering conditions with cold nights and drizzle late in 2001 affected the yield by reducing fruitset.
‘There was a lot of hen and chicken in the bunches,’ he said. ‘The weather during vintage started well but then slowed down with a long spell of below average temperatures. Fortunately the rain held off and a final burst of heat finished the ripening. The vintage itself was about two weeks later than usual.’
Evan said overall quality was ‘good’.
