2001 vintage report for Grampians (Victoria)

Peter Leeke, chairman of Grampians Winemakers, reports good fruit quality throughout the Grampians region. Volume was down about 10%, due to frost in October and dry conditions in December and January, but quality was up. Peter said Shiraz ripened early, and Cabernet Sauvignon was one of the last to ripen. Both varieties exhibited good pH, acid and Baume. Damp weather during vintage caused a touch of mildew but overall the weather was a positive factor in fruit quality.
