2000 vintage report for Perth Hills (Western Australia)

Little or no bird damage and better disease control contributed to a yield increase of 10 to 15% over last year, said Geoff Lindup, president of the Perth Hills Vignerons’ Association. Vintage started on 20 February, which was later than normal. Geoff said there was rain at the end of January but weather during vintage was generally good. More incidences of powdery mildew had been reported but generally it was controlled or eradicated. Geoff said there was improved depth to fruit this year, particularly the reds. ‘All vineyards who reported said the quality was better than 1999 and several claim it was the best ever.’
