2000 vintage report for Orange (New South Wales)

At the time of writing, the vintage was in its early stages in the Orange region. Justin Byrne, secretary of the Vignerons Association, said at the lower altitudes some of the whites had been picked but reds were still on the vine. He said Chardonnay and Pinot Noir were looking good. Although 100û150 mm of rain fell in March there was relatively little disease. ‘The weather didn’t really warm up until mid January and in future it will probably be described as a cool, wet vintage,’ Justin said. Red variety yields, particularly in Shiraz, were smaller, with yields of whites pretty standard.
