Overview
One Saturday in November, each year, the vignerons of the Beechworth wine region host an opportunity to taste the full range of wines from this premium region.
Held in an unassuming country hall, the winemakers take a table each and meet wine enthusiasts from near and far. Everyone’s there – from the established icons of the region, to the energetic new guard.
The mineral-rich hills around Beechworth are home to more than two dozen vineyards. The range of altitudes and topography of the hillside plantings allow for premium production of several grape varieties. Warm, sunny days reliably ripen the crops, whilst cool evenings temper the heat, producing wine grapes with natural balance and elegance.
Beechworth excels in Chardonnay and Shiraz, as visitors to the Spring Tasting will soon find, but exciting innovations are also happening in alternative varietals such as Nebbiolo. The common theme across the vineyards and varieties is hands-on attention, and utter dedication, which means Beechworth wines sit proudly beside the best of the world.
The bounty of local produce and passion for the culinary arts means that a visit to Beechworth is also richly rewarding food experience. A reservation at Provenance Restaurant, or any one of the bistros, bars and gastro-pubs in town, is highly recommended.
