2005 vintage report for Henty (Victoria)

After an October frost and a cool spring which resulted in a reduced fruit set (25 per cent down), the Henty wine region experienced a significantly warmer and drier summer than usual. This continued into autumn, bringing forward the (approx.) 838-tonne grape harvest by two weeks. There were some problems with European wasps in the north of the region. Growers report good quality across all grape varieties, disease free, and are very happy with the yields, with all grapes sold. All nine wineries are pleased with their 2005 vintages which will be fully up to the high standards set in 2004.
The estimated grape production for 2004-05 by variety is as follows: Pinot Noir (284 tonnes); Cabernet Sauvignon (38 tonnes); Merlot (4 tonnes); Pinot Meunier (88 tonnes); Shiraz (17 tonnes); Sauvignon Blanc (24 tonnes); Semillon (10 tonnes); Chardonnay (174 tonnes); Pinot Gris (80 tonnes); Riesling (114 tonnes) and Cabernet Franc (5 tonnes).
