2002 vintage report for Swan Hill (Victoria)

White winegrape yields were slightly above average but reds were below average, according to Adrian Bail, president of The Swan Hill Region Grape Growers Association.
Adrian said seasonal conditions generally favoured above average crop levels but ‘a firm commitment by growers to red quality issues ensured lower than average red yields’.
‘The weather during vintage was cool and dry, and cold nights helped flavour development,’ he said. ‘The quality of the reds is excellent with superb colour.’
Adrian said there was a general shortage of processing capacity due largely to whites and reds maturing together.
