2001 vintage report for Margaret River (Western Australia)

Preliminary Report (March):Sue Jackman, chief executive officer of the Margaret River Wine Industry Association Inc. said a near perfect ripening season has resulted in a great start to vintage with growers reporting good quality and generally good to above average crop yields. Minimal concerns have related to bird damage due to the lack of marri blossom in the area, but heavy investment in additional netting has saved many growers significant losses. Low levels of powdery mildew and some rots have been of concern to some growers, but general reports have been of good to excellent fruit quality. ‘Most vignerons experienced an intense start to vintage but a cool change to current conditions and some rain may affect the conclusion to what so far looks like an excellent vintage 2001 for Margaret River,’ Sue said.
