2000 vintage report for Grampians (Victoria)

After a hot, dry summer Grampians growers began harvest in early March. Peter Leeke, chairman of the Grampians Winemakers, said yields were down about about 5-10% on last year. Some rain and cool weather during vintage led to a little splitting in Riesling. Peter said all fruit lacked a little intensity due to the cool weather before harvesting. ‘Some reds were low in acid and high in pH, but overall the quality is above average,’ Peter said. ‘Whites overall are very good.’
