Tamburlaine wins gold at the China Wine Competition

Tamburlaine Organic Wines has been awarded a gold medal for its 2016 Reserve Shiraz at the China Wine Competition in Shanghai.

Judged on quality, value for money and packaging, the Shiraz, made at Tamburlaine in Orange, NSW, secured a 91-point score from the judging panel.

“This win recognises our efforts in not only striving to deliver wine of a high-quality, but also in our pricing, to deliver great value to consumers,” said Tamburlaine’s chief winemaker, Mark Davidson.

“Our team has consistently produced exceptional wines from the Orange region and we’re excited to continue showcasing them on the world stage.”

Australian wine trade with China has ground to a halt since late November following accusations of Australian producers selling wine for below the cost of production. China represented approximately 5 per cent of Tamburlaine’s business prior to the tariffs.

“We’ve worked hard to build relationships in the Chinese market over the last 17 years. There is a clear demand for high quality wine at the right price point and this competition win demonstrates that,” Davidson said.

The gold medal win in Shanghai was complemented by a number of silver medals for The Company, including their 2019 Shiraz (89 points), 2019 Malbec (83 points) and 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon (80 points).
