Bulk wine isn’t sexy, but the fact remains it represents around 35% of the volume of wine exported around the world. For Australia, bulk wine — that is wines in containers of 2 litres or more – accounted for 55% of the volume of wine traded during the last financial year. But, the fluctuations of Australia’s bulk wine fortunes generally don’t attract the headlines like their bottled equivalents. So, with the recent release of Wine Australia’s export report for 2017–18 which revealed Australia’s bulk wine exports reached a record high, we’ve taken a dive into the bulk stats, charting how they’ve grown, where they’re going and which varieties make up the mix.
