2002 vintage report for Pyrenees (Victoria)

Jane Holt, winemaker at Berrys Bridge Wines, said there seemed to be great variation of conditions across the region but that it was ‘generally a challenging season’.
She said the spring was cool and the summer mild, promoting above average powdery mildew incidence.
‘Rainfall was below average and extremely windy conditions caused poor fruitset in some varieties and unseasonable hail caused severe damage to some vineyards,’ she said.
‘These problems affected yield with many vineyards harvesting below average tonnages, although this was not consistent throughout the region. Several winemakers reported excellent pH and acid levels in both red and white fruit, although the harvest was later than average for most vineyards.’
