2000 vintage report for Langhorne Creek (South Australia)

Vintage began three weeks earlier than normal in Langhorne creek. Chairman of the Langhorne Creek Winemakers Association, David Foreman, said all crops were down, more so on older vines, but quality was excellent and he described the reds as ‘exceptional’. He said the drop in yield was variable across varieties and different vineyards. Heavy rain (100 mm) in February caused some splitting but fortunately fine weather followed and there were no major problems. There was some flooding on the flood plain, the first for three years, but the water soaked in quickly and dried out in time for harvesting machinery to move in.
