With much of the Australian wine industry’s focus of late being squarely on future directions, we invited several industry leaders to provide their verdicts on the newly released One Grape & Wine Sector Plan. We present a study showing how growers are learning to adapt to climate change across a number of Aussie wine regions. As growing conditions and markets morph, we also discover Cabernet’s evolving place in the country’s regions. Heading into very different climes, writer Mark Smith visited an iconic wine producer in one of Austria’s most elevated areas to find out how its challenging environment is overcome to produce vines and wines of quality. Meantime, Paul Baggio from Omnia Technologies Group examines how innovative filtration tech can lead not only to more efficient wine production but may also gain kudos from environmentally and socially conscious consumers. Sonya Logan talks to winemaker Daniel Tonon about Tonon Vineyard & Winery Sangiovese for Behind the Top Drops, and we are also introduced to this month’s Young Gun, winemaker Lauren Langfield from Orbis Wines. HR specialist Ilga Horvat provides insights for wine businesses into the successful onboarding and probation of new employees, while journalist Meg Riley unpacks the perception of cork closures as Australian wine producers prepare for a potential re-opening of the China market.
