Chris Ringland named Barossa Winemaker of the Year
New Zealand-born winemaker Chris Ringland was this week presented with the prestigious ‘Barossa Winemaker of the Year’ award at the annual declaration of vintage in the Barossa Valley, South Australia.

Mornington Peninsula Vignerons Association have organised Australia’s first industry event to focus on growing and making Pinot Gris and Grigio. The workshop will be held on Friday 19 May 2006 and is titled ‘Christening Gris’ highlighting the various nomenclatures used throughout the world and celebrating the commercial beginning of the variety in this country.
Grape price movement in region brings glimmer of hope
Initial low price offers for wine grapes across the Riverina have shocked wine grape producers. According to growers the market signals were not clear that the price would fall away as far as it has. Contributing causes to the fall are the effect of growers without either formal agreements or secure written contracts being cast adrift by some locally based wineries and even more notably in the Riverland (SA) and Murray Valley (NSW/VIC) inland regions and the consistent vagary of the levels of wine stocks the industry is carrying nationally.
'Women Wine Critics Board' hosts discussion on a new wine magazine for women
Beginning in May, a new wine magazine for women will be available at newsstands throughout the U.S. This week editor-in-chief Michele Ostrove meets with like-minded men and women on the Women Wine Critics Board website to discuss the launch of Wine Adventure magazine. Readers are encouraged to leave questions and comments for Ostrove on the Women Wine Critics Board blogsite. The site is managed by Mary Baker, who is a managing partner of Dover Canyon Winery in Paso Robles, California.
