Friday Forum: Wines of France wants the market back
French wine is on the move. The Government has relaxed legislation governing the AOC system and in doing so, allowed growers to make and market their product in the fruity fashion of the New World: woodchips, added tannin and other 'foreign' techniques will be tolerated in wines that will be defined by grape variety, rather than origin. And France has an additional US$2.6 million advertising war chest earmarked for the USA with news reaching us this week of the launch of a campaign geared to win the hearts and minds of American wine consumers.
