New life in oxygen debate
New research by the University of Bordeaux 2 has confirmed what winemakers have long believed — that corks allow a tiny amount of oxygen to enter a bottle of wine.
Hunter heads regional survey findings
The Deloitte/Winemakers’ Federation of Australia (WFA) regional financial benchmarking survey released early in November has found that wineries from the Hunter Valley region reported the strongest earnings, with earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) of 23.2%.
Split over event is “chapter of a book that has now closed”
The split between the Wine Industry Suppliers Association (WISA) and Exhibition Management is now just a chapter of a book that has closed, according to Exhibition Management’s executive director John Kelly. But it was a chapter that left him dismayed and angry but still philosophical.
Queensland award to Bob Gray
The Queensland wine industry has honoured local identity, Bob Gray, former owner of Rumbalara winery, in the Granite Belt, as the winner of this year’s Bassett Award. The award was granted by the Queensland Wine Industry Association at its annual general meeting in Toowoomba to recognise the contribution of an individual to the Queensland wine industry.
