Where’s the “WOW” factor? Australia’s wine industry suppliers have it!

Eleven Australian wine industry suppliers have demonstrated they have what it takes to “WOW” the Australian wine industry.

Entries for the Wine Industry Suppliers Australia (WISA) WOW Award closed on May 20. Submissions were received by A.R. Black, Cork Supply Australia, Dal Cin, Memstar, Morton Blacketer, Oeneo, Pellenc, VA Filtration, Wintertuhr, World Cooperage and Zork. The WOW Award – a WISA initiative – is being held in conjunction with the 2007 Winetech exhibition in Adelaide.

To be eligible to win the WOW Award, entrants must be a member of WISA and an exhibitor at Winetech 2007. Entrants need to demonstrate how their company or product has “WOW-ed” the Australian wine industry since the last Winetech exhibition, held in mid-2005.

WISA chairman, Louise Fraser, said WISA was thrilled with the standard and number of entries.

“There is a great prize available for the winner, and it is interesting to see companies who are setting benchmarks for innovation and product development in the Australian wine industry step forward through the forum of this competition,” Fraser said.

“The WOW entrants come from a wide range of supplier industries too: software, closures, oak manufacture, filtration and vineyard machinery amongst others, and that’s been good to see.

“WISA has been very pleased to present the WOW Award to our members, as a means of enabling suppliers to gain recognition for hard work, imagination and their dedication to providing supply solutions that increase the competitive edge of Australia’s grapegrowers and wine producers.

“These companies will have their ‘WOW’ product or service on show at Winetech in Adelaide from July 29 to 1 August – where they will be available for all the wine industry visitors to view.

“WISA has been pleased to see the WOW Award add a new dimension to Winetech – the biggest and best wine industry trade exhibition held in the southern hemisphere.”

The winner will be judged this week by the WISA committee, and editor of The Australian & New Zealand Grapegrower & Winemaker magazine, Mark Osborne. The winner will be announced in the Winetech preview within the June Annual Technical Issue of Grapegrower & Winemaker magazine and further profiled in the July issue of the magazine.

Grapegrower & Winemaker has provided the major prizes for the WOW Award winner: a trip to the SIMEI exhibition being held later this year in Milan, Italy, plus a promotional campaign in the magazine, which is Australasia’s largest-circulating trade publication.

Editor’s note: Two WISA committee member companies have nominated for the WOW awards, Pellenc and Morton Blacketer. Committee members representing these companies are excluded from the judging process.
