Russians visit in vintage 07

A delegation comprising four Russian wine industry representatives visited South Australia earlier this month to get a taste of the workings of the local wine industry. Following on from South Australian representatives touring wine regions in Russia late last year, the Russian delegation visited South Australia during vintage 2007 to continue relationship development, while exploring areas of potential commercial interest and future technical collaboration with South Australia. PIRSA Grape & Wine Project Manager Annabel Mugford and Director Kris Roberts led the Russians on a week-long tour of several key wine industry areas, including the Barossa, McLaren Vale and Langhorne Creek. The delegation also met with wine industry groups and visited centres of excellence and education in Adelaide. The visit was a joint project between PIRSA, Department of Trade and Economic Development, Austrade Russia and the Office of the Agent General, London. A report compiled by South Australian wine industry representative Vic Patrick and Acting Agent General David Travers on their tour to Russia late last year is also available – it details opportunities and risks for local businesses interested in the Russian wine industry.
