Announcing the finalists of the Saltram Australian Wine Communicator Award 2006

The Wine Press Club of New South Wales is delighted to announce the five finalists of the prestigious Saltram Australian Wine Communicator Award 2006.

After much deliberation the judging panel has settled on; Jane Adams, for Mentelle Notes October 2006 (newsletter); winner of the inaugural Saltram Australian Wine Communicator Award 2004, Campbell Mattinson for two entries: The Wine Hunter (book) and www.winefront.com.au (website); Jeni Port for “Fullbodied French Flavour’(feature article from The Age); and Nick Stock for ‘The Last Laugh’ (feature article, Australian Gourmet Traveller WINE magazine).

The Award, now in its third year, encourages excellence and innovation in Australian wine communications. It is open to any form of wine communication that has been published in the previous calendar year (to 30 Nov) including radio, print and wine marketing material.

A change to the nominations process resulted in a record number of entries this year. The panel of judges comprised patron of the Wine Press Club of New South Wales and winner of the Saltram Australian Wine Communicator of the Year 2005, James Halliday, Jancis Robinson OBE MW, Nigel Dolan from Saltram Wine Estate and Darren Jahn, the Wine Press Club of NSW President.

“This year the quality and variety of the entries was better than ever and the judging process is getting tougher and tougher,” says Jahn. “The Award is getting recognised locally and internationally as bringing kudos to the winners and we are proud of the reputation it has developed for acknowledging excellence in Australian wine communicators.”

The winner will be announced at the Sydney Royal Wine Show Trophy lunch at the Grand Ballroom, Star City Casino in Sydney on this Friday, 16 February 2007.

The winner receives a $10,000 travel grant from Saltram Wine Estate and $1,000 spending money from the Wine Press Club of NSW. Also to be announced on the day is the winner of the Gourmet Traveller WINE Magazine’s New Writer Award, which is co-sponsored by the Wine Press Club of NSW and Liquid Ideas.
