November/December Wine Industry Journal celebrates the festive season

The Wine Industry Journal celebrated the arrival of the festive season with a look at a small sample of the many different styles of Sparkling Red wine currently on the market for this issue’s Varietal Report. Renowned Sparkling Red winemaker, Peter Rumball, introduces the report and the line-up of wines in the tasting impressed the panel.

Industry stalwart Brian Croser recently spoke at the Australian-American Chamber of Commerce luncheon in Adelaide and said, “Australia had barely begun to explore the market opportunity presented by fine wine”.

Read more about Croser’s insight to the future of Australian wine in his paper featured in the November/December 2006 issue.

Richard Smart reports on his most recent visit to China and draws comparisons between Australian and Chinese viticulture. Some of the Chinese methods are interesting and far removed from the techniques used in Australian vineyards. Yeast and fermentation is one of this issue’s focus topics.

Vladimir Jiranek and his team at the University of Adelaide share their latest research findings on the evolution of ‘ready-to-use’ wine yeast strains. The team at Wine Network give practical advice for managing malolactic fermentation.

Following the Journal’s close look at climate change in this year’s July/August issue, we present the research findings of Katherine Wells, chair of the South Australian Premier’s Round Table on Sustainability, and Fraser Bell, partner of Finlaysons Lawyers. Both articles indicate that climate change is happening now and the wine industry needs to take immediate action.

Valmai Hankel tells the story of Eileen Hardy and how the labels named in her honour came to fruition.
