Cuisine magazine’s Day of Homage to Pinot Noir

A spectacular gala dinner, the classiest sausage sizzle you’ve ever seen and the chance to taste 100 of the best Pinot Noirs in New Zealand – what more could a Pinot-loving foodie ask for?

That – along with airfares and accommodation – is what ardent Pinotphiles are being offered in a special reader promotion in the next issue of Cuisine. Cuisine magazine’s Pinot Lover’s Day of Homage is being held as part of Pinot Noir 2007. Being held in Wellington from 29 January – 1 February, Pinot Noir 2007 will see 500 of the most influential international wine commentators, producers, trade, media and lovers of great wine gather for three days of eating, drinking, talking and celebrating New Zealand’s top red wine.

Pinot Noir 2007 Board Chairman Steve Smith MW says the event is a must-have on the calendar of anyone with a love of, or involvement with, Pinot Noir, and follows on from the highly successful Pinot Noir 2001 and 2004.

The programme offers three conference streams with something to appeal to everyone’s interests – be they technical subjects (The Pinot Noir Maker), the business of wine (The Pinot Noir Seller), or wine connoisseur and consumer workshops (The Pinot Noir Lover).

The Cuisine magazine’s Pinot Lover’s Day of Homage is part of the consumer stream and will be held on Thursday 1 February.

It will start with a sausage sizzle with a difference in the TSB Arena – with leading international chefs Josh Emmett, Brad Farmerie and Rex Morgan designing a gourmet sausage to pair with two leading New Zealand Pinot Noirs. Participants can watch the sausages being made, cooked and can then taste them with the matching wines.

The afternoon will see 100 of New Zealand’s best Pinot Noirs offered for tasting, then it’s on to the Pinot Noir 2007 Gala Dinner in a special marquee on Wellington’s Waterfront. Expected to attract up to 1000 guests, the dinner will feature cuisine prepared by a team of leading international chefs under the direction of chef de cuisine Ruth Pretty, and entertainment by the Montana World of Wearable Arts.

“It will be a food and wine experience people will never forget,” says Steve Smith. “The combination of some of the wine world’s key influencers, top international chefs, exquisite wines and food is really unique.”
