Riverina Wine Show and International Sweet Wine Challenge results

Griffith winery Westend Estate was the winner of six trophies at the 2006 Visy Riverina Wine Show and International Sweet Wine Challenge.
The Westend ‘3 Bridges’2004 Durif won three trophies – the Best Durif, the Best Red Wine from Riverina fruit, and the Best Dry Table Wine of the Show. The Westend Richland Cabernet Sauvignon 2005 won the trophy for the Best one-year-old Cabernet Sauvignon, while the 2004 ‘3 Bridges’ Cabernet Sauvignon won the trophy for the Best Cabernet Sauvignon over one-year-old.
Westend also won the trophy for the most successful exhibitors of Dry Table wines made from Riverina fruit, while McWilliam’s Wines maintained its grip on the most Successful Exhibitor Trophy.
Griffith-based wineries Casella (Best one-year-old Shiraz), McWilliam’s (Best Dry White, Floral style) and De Bortoli (Best Tawny Port) also won trophies.
Hunter Valley-based Peterson’s Wines won the international Sweet Wine of the Year with its 2004 Griffith Botrytis Semillon, beating a strong field of wineries including wines from New Zealand and South Africa.
New Zealand winery Lawson’s Dry Hills win the trophy for the Best Sweet Wines, Floral style with its 2005 late harvest Riesling.
