The Shoalhaven Coast and Southern Highlands wine regions have expanded dramatically since being granted Geographical Indicators by the Australian Wine & Brandy Corporation in 2002. There’s now over 80 vineyards and 530ha under grapes in the two regions, and growing!
2006 brings us the 3rd Annual Kiama Regional Wine Show, a truly regional event that finds and recognises quality Shoalhaven Coast and Southern Highlands wines, helping to build and develop the food and wine reputation of the community.
Sandy Rendel, Kiama Wine Show Chairman says, “In our area wine is a new, rapidly expanding agricultural industry that deserves support. Our proximity to Sydney and beautiful coastline is such an attraction and I want wine to become part of that equation.”
In order to achieve this the 2006 Kiama Regional Wine Show brings an exciting new program of events for winemakers, trade and local wine lovers.
As well as the Exhibitor Tasting and Winemaker Workshop, this year for the first time there will also be Public and Trade Tastings. Giving local consumers and trade a chance to discover for themselves the quality and diversity of their district.
The show now attracts more than 30 commercial producers entering over 130 wines for judging. It is a wonderful showcase of what huge potential these local wine regions have to offer.
The expert judges have been selected and the tastings will be held on September 22.
“We have three talented judges with Pepper Tree Wines Chief Winemaker Chris Cameron as Chairman, Nick Ryan Editor Sommelier Magazine and Master of Wine Rob Geddes. A judging panel like this brings a mix of strong technical skills, expert journalist knowledge and international experience to the district,” Sandy said.
Medal or no medal, all exhibitors will get invaluable feedback from these judges at the Exhibitor Tasting on Saturday September 23.
