Guided wine tour to China

Do you want to learn more about the wine industry in China?

Denis Gastin, one of the world’s foremost experts on Asia’s wine industries, will host a personal tour to China later this year for interested wine, viticulture and wine technology delegates. Ryan Publications, publisher of The Australian & New Zealand Grapegrower & Winemaker has thrown its support behind the tour to enable Australia’s wine industry participants to further their knowledge of the market opportunities which exist in China, and their knowledge of China’s own wine industry.

Gastin is a feature writer and Australian correspondent for Japan’s liquor-industry newspaper, The Shuhan News and columnist for Wine Review magazine in Korea. He writes the Asia chapter in Wine Report, the annual update of the world of wine by region, and contributes the Asia content to The Oxford Companion to Wine, The World Atlas of Wine, and Hugh Johnson’s Wine Companion and Pocket Wine Book. In addition, he judges regularly at wine competitions in China, Korean and Japan. He is a regular contributor to Grapegrower & Winemaker magazine, writing an extensive three-part series on China during 2006.

The week-long tour is anticipated to fly in to Beijing on Saturday 16 September, kicking off with a visit to Dragon Seal and Great Wall wineries near Beijing before flying to Urumchi in China’s far west, to visit the new large-scale viticulture plantings and winery operations of Vini-Suntime. The tour will then visit Yantai in Shandong province and end in Shanghai, the largest market for Australian wines, on 22/23 September.
