Rolf Binder nominated for winemaker of the year

Barossa winemaker, Rolf Binder, is a finalist for the prestigious Gourmet Traveller Wine Magazine’s 2006 winemaker of the year competition.

After 24 years in the wine industry and following in his father’s footsteps, Binder has incorporated many changes in the business, from fortified wine production to producing some of Australia’s best known and highly acclaimed reds; a name change from Veritas to Rolf Binder Wines; and a dramatic growth in the vineyard, varieties produced and the winery.

This nomination comes on top of last year’s Winemakers of the Year Award for Rolf and Christa (Rolf’s sister and the white winemaker) from the ‘Barons of the Barossa’ and the Langton’s ‘Distinquished’ classification for Rolf Binder’s single vineyard Hanisch Shiraz, reflecting the exceptional quality of the fruit, the vines and Rolf Binder’s skill as a winemaker. It cements Rolf Binder’s reputation as one of the Barossa Valley’s great winemakers.

The Leader writes on Wednesday 14 June.
