Murray Valley and Riverland grape growers have embarked on a fundraising campaign to mount legal action against one of Australia’s largest winemakers, McGuigan Simeon.
A contractual dispute empted after the winemaker suspended about 200 growers’ contracts in December, only two months before harvest.
Growers were hoping to secure funding from the National Farmers’ Federation fight fund.
Murray Valley winegrape growers chief executive Mike Stone said legal action would depend on whether funding was available.
“You have to make sure of that… these things can drag on,” he said.
At the same time growers were continuing to fight McGuigan’s prices for the 2006 harvest.
