Regional talent on show in Langhorne Creek

Langhorne Creek continues to be one of Australia’s most innovative winemaking cultures. Once a year winemakers, wine lovers, industry members and media are offered the rare opportunity to taste the complete range of wines from the region’s award winning and exciting young winemakers.

The 2006 Langhorne Creek Winemakers’ Showcase and Luncheon, being held 5 May, is set to be the biggest event in its six year history, with more than 120 wine entries expected.

Greg Follett, Chairman of Langhorne Creek Winemakers’ Association and Lake Breeze winemaker, said the event was a celebration of the high calibre wines being made in the region.

“The showcase is a window to the consistently high quality wines emerging from this region,” Greg said.

“It is helping us achieve recognition for the fruit quality of the area and I think people are starting to understand that, from a viticulture perspective, this is one of the most important regions in South Australia.”

The extensive showcase features current and pre release Langhorne Creek branded wines. The tasting will offer insights into the history of winemaking in the region as well as its future directions.

The judging panel, chaired by wine show judge and local Boar’s Rock winemaker Mike Farmilo, includes Peter Simic, Publisher of Winestate magazine, Penny Boothman, a UK wine journalist who writes for Decanter, The Drink’s Business and other UK and Australian publications, and Angus Buchanan, Manager of leading Adelaide wine retail store East End Cellars.

Judging of the showcase will once again result in a Langhorne Creek Showcase Six-pack. Trialled for the first time last year, the Six-pack will be available after the event from East End Cellars.

The showcase will be held in a grand marquee on the grounds of the Langhorne Creek sports oval and is followed by a gourmet Luncheon featuring the winning wines from the 2005 event and announcements of the 2006 winners.
