Ambassador’s golden record

Wynns Coonawarra Estate has celebrated its 50th Cabernet Sauvignon with the release of its 2003 vintage Black Label.

From a year winemaker Sue Hodder calls ‘one of the best in a long time’, the 2003 is a great ambassador for the label and the region with bags and bags of dark berry and cherry characters with a shake of spice and chocolate through it, ending with a mouth-filling soft pucker of tannins.

It’s a modern style of the 50-year hero of Wynns Estate, the latest vintages looking for less and less minty green characters, evident from a huge vertical tasting more than a year ago at the famous Coonawarra Estate.

The results of that tasting are now available from cellar door or by contacting the winery, in a book titled Reflections: 50 years of Wynns Coonawarra Estate Cabernet Sauvignon.
