Wine producer Allan Scott hasn’t missed a hands-on vintage in Marlborough since Montana harvested its first grapes here in 1976.
Working his 30th vintage in the industry this year, he is one of only a few who can lay claim to having worked every Marlborough vintage.
This year Mr Scott is dividing his time between the family’s award winning winery on Jackson’s Rd in Marlborough and a new viticulture venture in Queenstown.
News of the their latest gold medal – at the 2006 Royal Easter Show for the Allan Scott Prestige Chardonnay 2003 – came at the same time as frost reports in Queenstown and ongoing droughts in Marlborough.
Yields this year have been predicted to be slightly down on average, but winemakers are looking at record total volume because of new plantings.
