Grape grower plea to minister

The plight of grape growers in the King Valley in the face of the plummeting wine grape prices has been conveyed to the state Minister for Agriculture, Bob Cameron.

Mr Cameron met with the King Valley Vignerons committee earlier this month to hear of the financial hardship confronting the industry right across the nation.

In particular, growers stressed the importance of a recent Senate inquiry, which recommended a mandatory code of conduct be developed to regulate the sale of wine grapes.

A spokesman for the minister’s officer indicated that while Mr Cameron had a firm understanding of the issue, it was a matter of the federal government.
