Christening Gris 19 May 2006

Mornington Peninsula Vignerons Association have organised Australia’s first industry event to focus on growing and making Pinot Gris and Grigio. The workshop will be held on Friday 19 May 2006 and is titled ‘Christening Gris’ highlighting the various nomenclatures used throughout the world and celebrating the commercial beginning of the variety in this country.

This one day Tasting Workshop is chaired by Dr Brian Freeman (previous Professor of Wine Science, Charles Sturt University, NSW), with keynote speakers to include Frederic Blanck (fifth generation winemaker, Domaine Paul Blanck, Alsace), Sally Gudgeon (wine writer for media including Decanter UK) and Christian Meyer (Sommelier, Langtons Melbourne). The object of the workshop is to gain an understanding of regional viticulture and winemaking directions and an understanding of consumer interest. International and Australian regional wines will be tasted with relevant wine analysis provided. This will be a great opportunity to learn about a variety that is in high demand all around the world.

Wine tastings will include wines from Friuli, Alsace, Mornington Peninsula, Tasmania, Sunraysia, Adelaide Hills, King Valley and New Zealand. The Tasting Panel will include Dr Andrew Pirie (Tamar Ridge), Peter Leske (Nepenthe), Steve Warne (Cassella), Kevin McCarthy (T’Gallant) and Mark Walpole (Brown Brothers).

Christening Gris will be held at T’Gallant Winemakers on Friday 19 May 9am – 5pm, lunch included and an optional Christening Dinner to be held at Max’s at Red Hill Estate from 7pm.
